Kudardup Farmhouse

A farmhouse located at Waldron Park (Tree Farm) in Kudardup near Augusta had been used as a holiday home until the client relocated to live here permanently. The existing accommodation was not suitable for this new purpose hence the decision to build an extension.

This extension is constructed on three levels, a garage.storage area in the undercroft, a living area/kitchen  and an ensuite on the Ground floor, and another bedroom/study in the attic. A generous verandah runs around the perimeter giving 360 degree views to the existing cottage, farmland, forest, paddock and dam.

The challenge was to keep the new building in the vernacular style of the existing cottage, therefore Scyon Linea cladding and Manor red colourbond and a variety of roof pitches were some of the elements selected to tie the new in with the old. Vast forests of Sydney Blue Gum on the farm were used as the source for the gleaming timber floor boards and staircase.

'We were fortunate to have Ingrid recommended to us by previous clients. She was very professional and always available for advice during the building process. She provided thorough detailed plans with great attention to detail.

We wanted an architect who was both receptive to our ideas and provided architectural and aesthetic guidance.  Our brief was for a character home that paid homage to traditional rural design but also made an individual statement. She listened to our ideas and then enhanced them with her creativity and knowledge of architectural balance.

She has a great sense of proportion and designed a spacious, light filled home that is both impressive and welcoming. With the implementation of her practical and creative design elements it is a great house to live in. With its veranda design and alignment to northern aspects it stays cool in summer and warm in winter. And the discerning window arrangement in every room frame and highlight the surrounding farmland and trees.

With her creativity and sound knowledge of architectural principles Ingrid helped us turn our ideas into a unique farmhouse that ties in with the surrounding cottage and out buildings and beautifully compliments its rural surroundings.'
